Local Testing Phase of the Open Doors KA2 Project
Over the past weeks, we have been actively engaged in the local testing phase of the Open Doors KA2 project, working together with young participants with visual and hearing impairments. Supported by our dedicated volunteers, we are exploring the potential of nature-based learning and adapted outdoor sports as tools for inclusion, personal development, and well-being.
Our activities focus on discovering the healing power of the natural environment and creating meaningful experiences through movement and adventure. Participants have been encouraged to connect with nature in different ways—whether through forest walks, gentle exploration trails, or simply feeling the textures and sounds of the natural world around them. We also took on challenges that help build self-confidence and trust, such as adapted water activities that allow participants to gradually overcome the fear of water. Another highlight of our programme is the introduction of animal-assisted activities, offering opportunities for emotional connection, communication, and trust-building between participants and therapy animals.
These sessions are not just meaningful moments for those involved—they are also helping us collect valuable experience and feedback. This input will directly contribute to the development of a Handbook of Inclusive Nature-Based Programmes, which will provide guidance and practical tools for organizations working with young people with different types of disabilities. And the adventure does not stop here. The local testing phase continues, and many more activities are just around the corner. We look forward to sharing more stories, insights, and achievements from the field as we continue our journey.
Stay connected with us and join us as we open more doors to inclusion, accessibility, and shared experiences in nature.
